Monty’s ’62 Stratocaster set is a recreation of a classic early 60’s Strat set. Crafted to be as close to the originals as physically possible and modelled on a number of the best early 60’s strat pickups ever to grace Monty’s workbench, we believe that these pickups deliver on what many people consider the archetypal strat tone.
With a beautifully chimey high end and an ever so slightly scooped mid characteristic, these pickups are a little brighter than their 50’s brethren, but have all the body and poke needed to deliver some properly girthy strat tones when required. Boasting exceptional clarity, responsiveness and string separation, these pickups are quintessentially ‘stratty’.
True to the originals, these pickups feature magnets bevelled by our own fair hands and our painstaking recreation of the original ’62 magnet stagger.
Like all our strat pickups (and just like old Fender pickups), our ’62 pickups are only partially potted. This keeps the centre of the coil free from wax, resulting in increased clarity and responsiveness.
We’ve made this set available with a plain steel baseplate on the bridge pickup. Steel baseplates -which are used on telecaster bridge pickups- subtly alter the magnetic field of the pickup, fattening it up without rolling off the highs. Many people like to use these on Strat bridge pickups, so we’ve made it available as an option. As a plus, it also provides a little bit more shielding, reducing the hum inherent to single-coil designs.
